Coaching differs from Counselling and Mentoring

Coaching differs from Counselling and Mentoring.

Counselling a doctor-patient relationship. It is taking the past and making a better future for you.

Mentoring is having an example to follow. It is like having a parent, child relationship.

You make the decisions as you know best what the appropriate thing is for you to do. I hold you accountable for the decisions that you are making if that is what you want me to do.

Coaching is a partnership between coach and client – coachee to achieve their personal best and to produce the results they want in their personal and professional lives.

Coaching ensures the client can give their best, learn and develop in the way they wish with powerful questioning techniques so they can get clear on what they truly desire and who they are.

It is all about you, the coachee, and what you want to do.

This is achieved by the coach providing a safe, creative, and non-judgmental space, asking thought-provoking questions, and listening to help the coachee explore, reflect, and make decisions and holding them to account – if that is what they want.

Common benefits people experience from coaching include:

• Improved performance

• Improved sense of direction and focus

• Increased knowledge of self/self-awareness

• Improved ability to relate to and influence others

• Increased motivation

• Improved performance effectiveness, e.g. focused effort

• Increased resourcefulness/resilience, e.g. ability to handle change

• Increased confidence

Maybe you just need some structure, a few reminders, and a call every week, or, bi-weekly or even monthly – whenever you need me, I will be there for you.
