Questions

  1. Why are you doing this and. what would you like to see going forward?

Why am I doing this – I am so unbelievably grateful that I have made such a good recovery. I could not speak, walk or move my right arm but over time I got better.

And that is not only down to me – it is a mixture of genes, luck, consistency, application, and acceptance.

Now I feel I am destined to give back as Neuro-Linguistic Programming coaching works for me on a daily basis and those survivors whom I have coached.

What I would like to see going forward is Neuro Linguistic Programming Coaching implemented as a remedial tool such as counselling or occupational therapy by the NHS and the Stroke Association and the equivalent in your country.

  • Why is coaching better than counselling?

Coaching is not per se better than counselling. Coaching is different from counselling. Counselling has its place but not in a stroke or head injury survivor-type setting. Coaching is a partnership; counselling is a doctor/patient relationship.

By carefully crafted questions, where you as a coachee have directed the conversation, what you know to be true for you, you are much more likely to execute or question the task.

You know what is good for you as you well know. Even if it is unconsciously in the back of your mind. It is my job to illicit that from you.

  • Why do you think that NLP coaching would be good for survivors and their caregivers?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Coaching is retraining your brain to think thoughts that are more suited to you.

You are so much more than your stroke or head injury or caring responsibilities.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Coaching takes you out of yourself, into a third-person perspective.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Coaching takes you into the past or the future.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming Coaching  is suitable for everyone but more so when

  • You are not in control of your life.
  • You don’t know what you are going to do for work.
  • You have heard something about cognitive issues, but you are not sure what they are.
  • You had a bunch of friends, but you now don’t.

As many stroke and head injury survivors are faced with.

They are faced with

  • Paralysis or loss of muscle movement. …
  • Difficulty talking or swallowing. …
  • Memory loss or thinking difficulties. …
  • Emotional problems. …
  • Pain. …
  • Changes in behaviour and self-care ability.

Don’t get me started on the caregivers who find themselves in the unbearable position of

Caring

Having their lives turned upside down.

By just caring…..

       * Why do you think coaching has not been an option in treatment for recovery patients in particular stroke or head injury survivors?

Coaching much less NLP Coaching was not an option for anyone because previously we thought of coaching only in the context of a sport – golf or tennis or in an executive setting.

Then Tony Robbins on Oprah brought into our consciousness and then we realised that NLP coaching has the potential of making our lives more peaceful, and structured, and give us more control to go after what we want or need.

Stroke or head injury survivors and their caregivers need a peaceful, structured life and giving more control to go after what they want or need.

  • Why is your coaching so specifically targeted at Stroke survivors?

I had 2 TIA and a more severe stroke when I was just 44 – 12 ½ years ago. My occupational therapist sent me, after observing me, to the NHS. I went on a coaching weekend independent of the NHS.

When I went back to work after that weekend, I was scrolling through the newsletter. And there it was a course on executive coaching was offered within St Georges hospital as they saw the use of coaching but in an executive setting.

I followed it up with a Neuro-Linguistic Programming coaching practitioner course as it spoke to me – despite its unbelievably difficult name.

Then one day I was speaking to a stroke colleague, and I thought he sure could use some NLP coaching. It was just the way he was looking at the relationship he had with his family.

Thus, the idea was borne, and I am determined to have this NLP coaching introduced as a viable option for stroke and head injury survivors and their caregivers.

They need help and Neuro Linguistic Programming coaching is a great way to help them.
